The western March Brown hatch is one of the first good mayfly emergences of the year on Northwest rivers. Partridge hackle over a hare's ear body gives it movement in the current and a silhouette that reads as an emerging or crippled mayfly, which is when fish key on them hardest. Fish it on a downstream swing through riffles and tailouts, or hang it off the bend of a dry during the hatch. Fish takes on the swing tend to be aggressive, so keep a little slack in the line
