SPEY CASTING CLASSES

speycasting

Spey casting is an advanced form of fly casting that can be performed with any fly rod, but is mostly done with two-handed rods. They allow an angler to cover the water quickly and efficiently with tremendous line control. It’s not only fun, but very effective. This full day class takes place on the water where you will learn the essential concepts of spey casting, as well as of the major casts from both sides of the river.

What to expect: Our classes focus on the fishing during the season the class is held.  Our focus in our summer classes is on dry line techniques for summer steelhead and the focus in our winter and spring classes is on casting and fishing sink tips and heavy flies for winter steelhead. Even though the focus in on the techniques used in the season of the class, we also go over sink tip fishing in the summer classes and dry line techniques and lines in our winter classes.  We will discuss and have available the many different Scandi and Skagit heads that make learning to spey cast so much easier than it used to be.  Additional topics include reading water, run timing, fly selection and more.

WINTER STEELHEAD FISHING TACTICS

A hybrid class that falls between the ever popular spey casting class and a guided trip, this class takes place on a West End River with the goal of cutting the learning curve on spey fishing for steelhead.

This course is two days long with the first day focusing on either teaching spey casting for the first time, or really fine tuning your cast to make it more efficient so you dont get as tired and can fish longer, consistent so you can cover every square inch of fishy water properly, and versatile so that high bank doesnt force you further downstream.

Day two is focused on fishing, if we’re doing our job right and the fish gods smile upon us, hooking into a fish during the class shouldnt be much of a surprise. We will be teaching this section in areas that hold fish and focus on how to swing through different holding lies effectively. This includes reading the water, determining the lies, line control, presentation, etc.

*Each class changes to best fit the anglers needs. We can happily accommodate beginners that are new to fly fishing to advanced anglers that just need some fine tuning.

**Class size is limited to 4 people to ensure plenty of one on one time.

Price: $295/person. Includes rod and reel if needed. Does not include WA state sales tax, gratuity for the instructor, WA state fishing license, lunch, boots and waders
